Gorgeous. Stunning. Authentic. A perfect gift. These are the words our customers use to describe this Gold Mandala Indian Spice Box Gift Set that includes a collection of 12 beloved, all-organic spices.

What is an Indian Spice Box?

Also known as a Masala Dabba, an Indian Spice Box is an airtight tin containing 7 katori (small bowls) used to store and preserve spices in the typical Indian kitchen. Because they're not only functional, but pretty, their popularity around the world is growing exponentially.

Wendell Berry once said, "If a thing is ugly, we should ask why." Why do we make ugly things? If something is useful or practical, does it have to be ugly? Why can't it be beautiful too? Why store your spices haphazardly in ziploc bags from the grocery store or in the random containers you purchased them in? Not only is this not beautiful, it's not very practical either.

The Indian Spice Box keeps out moisture and damaging UV rays, ensuring that your spices stay fresh and keep their potency longer. In this way, it's a far more practical solution for how to store your spices.

And, unlike most typical spice storage in the average home, it's also beautiful.

In short, it's the perfect gift for both a kitchen whiz and a culinary newbie.

What's in this Masala Dabba Gift Set?

In addition to the beautiful, hand-crafted Gold Mandala Indian Spice Box, we've curated a collection of 12 spices that are essential for setting up a typical masala dabba.

Limiting ourselves to just 12 spices for the Indian spice gift set was challenging, but we believe we've hit upon the perfect balance of commonly used spices as well as those that are just plain hard to find at the average grocery store (but often used in Indian cooking, like Amchoor Powder and Curry Leaves).

Plus, as always, our spices are impeccably sourced, non-irradiated, and organic. They are potent, aromatic, and fresh. And, we wholeheartedly believe that some, like the Tellicherry Black Peppercorns, will soon become your new favorites.

We even included Panch Phoron (Indian Five Spice) because it combines several other spices we wanted to incorporate into this spice set but didn't have space for, so this is our cheat for getting them into your kitchen! You won't be displeased.

Why so many spices?

Because it's fun!

Half the joy of cooking Indian food, or any food really, is the way it engages all five of your senses. In fact, all five are necessary to doing it well! It's a given that you have to see, taste, smell, and touch to cook delicious food, but even your hearing comes into play to help signal when water is boiling or a sizzling pan is too hot.

With that in mind, what is more pleasurable in the kitchen than the multi-sensory experience of selecting spices? Seeing a vibrant spice, smelling its decadent aroma, and tasting the way it mingles together with other spices to create a whole that is far greater than the sum of its parts?

Our hope with this organic spice set is that you'll feel like a kid in a candy store, trying the entire set out before you decide on your 7 favorites to include in your own masala dabba (Indian Spice Box).

We're leaving the decision-making to you, your taste buds, your vision, and your cooking style.

Which spices are included in the Indian Spice Box Gift Set?

This collection consists of 12 mini-pouches, each containing 1/2 the volume by weight of our normal spice bottle size.

Includes the following all-organic spices:

Caring for Your Solid Brass Indian Spice Box

Prior to Use and for General Cleaning and Polishing: Wash your Indian spice box with a mild solution of soap and warm water. Dry thoroughly with a lint-free cloth.

How often should you clean brass? Brass requires regular dusting and cleaning to maintain its shine. Otherwise it will begin to tarnish. Exposure to water can cause corrosion. Keeping your brass routinely dusted and cleaned is a great way to make sure it is always looking its best.

Tips:

  • Use a soft cloth or sponge. Avoid using abrasive materials that can scratch the brass.
  • Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners on brass, as they can damage the finish. Also, stay away from vinegar or lemon juice, as they can be too acidic for brass.
  • Protect from Moisture. Brass can tarnish faster in humid environments. Store the brass box in a dry place and avoid exposing it to excessive moisture.
