Who is Alana?

Alana is a very dear, long-term family friend. Of course, everyone on the Pure Indian Foods staff is considered family! Alana has spent a lot of time in India, and she is incredibly knowledgeable about nutrition and Ayurveda, which is why we've asked her if she would give some of her time to speaking with our customers about Indian cooking and Ayurveda. We’re excited to offer a fun and interactive Kitchari Cooking Class! Discover the awesome nature of this ancient Indian comfort food, an Ayurvedic favorite for nurturing and healing. We’ll cook both green mung dal kitchari and yellow mung dal kitchari and premium aged basmati rice, all while exploring the many nutritional benefits and how you can tailor these foods to fit your basic constitution (dosha-type) with different spices and vegetables. We are going to make Tridoshic Mung Dahl Pancakes which are good for all constitutions. It is a great breakfast recipe based on Ayurvedic principles of 6 Tastes. We will also discuss how to create variations to make for a particular constitution. It will be served with Mint Coconut Chutney or lime Mango Chutney.

Shilpa Sankaran, founder of Kosa Ayurvedic Spa, is joined by her mother Lalita and Kosa Ayurvedic Health Counselor, Tanya Anderson, in this engaging demonstration of a favorite traditional and healing Indian beverage, Bael Sharbat. This popular drink is served in many Indian households to cool, calm and refresh during the hot summer months. It's sweet and sour qualities pacify Pitta dosha and is enjoyed by all ages. We have added some basic elements to customize it for the mid-season between summer and fall, creating a more warming baseline. The demonstration will include how to make the beverage and basic principles of the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda.

Ayurveda Cardamom-Citrus Immune Support Tea

Darjeeling Green Tea is high in antioxidants; it has a lighter, more delicate, vegetal flavor than black tea and can be enjoyed on its own or alongside light desserts, fish, rice, and cheeses. It contains a small caffeine, so it’s best consumed in the morning or early afternoon.
