How to Prepare

Just Add Milk & Simmer

All you need is 2 cups of milk—boil, stir, and let the magic happen. Optional: add a spoonful of our Pure Indian Foods Ghee for even more richness. Whether on the stovetop or in your Instant Pot, you’ll have warm, creamy payasam ready in no time.

Directions

  1. Boil 2 cups of milk (whole cow’s milk is traditional and recommended, but you may experiment with other milks as well).

  2. Add milk and contents of this packet (except jaggery) to a pot.

  3. Optional: Add 1 Tbsp Organic Grassfed Cultured Ghee.

  4. Cook on medium-high, stirring occasionally, until dal is soft.
    (For Instant Pot: Pressure cook on High for 24 min, NPR 10–15 min)

  5. Stir in jaggery.

  6. Serve warm for a cozy treat or chilled for a refreshing dessert. Yields ~2 cups.

Garnish (Optional)

Top with saffron, rose petals, slivered pistachios, or a few drops of  Organic Rose Syrup.

How to Cook


  • Stovetop

    Bring 2 cups of milk to a simmer. Then, add the contents of this packet (except jaggery) and (opt) 1 TBSP Pure Indian Foods Original Ghee. Cook, stirring regularly, until dal is soft — about 30-40 minutes. Just before serving, stir in jaggery. Serve warm or chilled.

  • Pressure Cooker

    Add 2 cups of milk and this packet (except jaggery) to the cooker. (Opt) Add 1 TBSP Pure Indian Foods Original Ghee. Seal lid. Cook on high pressure for 24 minutes. (For Instant-Pot use Beans setting.) Let pressure release naturally (10-15 min). Stir in jaggery. Serve warm or chilled.

Garnish

with saffron, rose petals, slivered pistachios, or Pure Indian Foods rose syrup.
