Brass South Indian Filter Coffee Maker

Elevate your daily coffee ritual with our portable South Indian Filter Coffee Maker—a timeless, travel-friendly brewing tool designed to bring the rich heritage of Indian filter coffee right to your kitchen. Crafted from premium brass for a traditional touch and long-lasting durability, this coffee maker is the gold standard for authentic South Indian-style kaapi brewing.

Why Choose Our Portable Coffee Maker?

Rich, Robust Flavor

Unlike typical drip methods, our filter’s slow-brewing process uses gravity and a metal pressing disc to steam water through finely ground coffee. The result? A bold, full-bodied decoction that captures every nuance of your favorite beans.

Concentrated Coffee Decoction

Brew a strong, aromatic extract—known as decoction—that forms the soul of South Indian filter coffee. Simply mix with hot milk and sugar (we prefer our Organic Jaggery) to create a comforting, energizing cup every time.

Chicory-Enhanced Tradition

Our design supports chicory-blended coffee, a signature flavor of Southern India. Add a chicory-coffee blend to your filter for that earthy, caramelized note cherished in traditional filter coffee homes.

Time-Honored Brewing Method

Using this filter isn’t just brewing—it’s honoring a heritage. Passed down through generations, the method reflects the love, precision, and culture of coffee-making in South India.

Endless Versatility

Not in the mood for a traditional cup? Use the decoction as a base for modern drinks like lattes, cappuccinos, or even iced coffees—making it the perfect blend of old-world charm and modern taste.

Crafted from Premium-Grade Brass

Made using only the highest quality brass for exceptional durability and beauty.

Lab-Tested for Safety

Independently tested to ensure it meets stringent safety standards—verified to be free from harmful levels of lead.

Which Travel Coffee Maker Is Best?

Indian Filter Coffee vs. French Press vs. Aeropress

INDIAN FILTER COFFEE

Indian filter coffee is brewed using a slow-drip method where hot water gradually passes through finely ground coffee held in a metal filter. The process relies solely on heat—no pressure is involved—which produces a rich, concentrated decoction. This decoction is then blended with hot milk, creating a smooth, aromatic drink that’s deeply ingrained in South Indian culture.

Interestingly, this style of coffee is most beloved in the Tanjavur delta region, far from India’s coffee-growing hills in Baba Budangiri. The region’s high-quality dairy plays a key role: in Southern India, great filter coffee depends as much on good milk as it does on the strength of the brew.

FRENCH PRESS COFFEE

The French Press follows an immersion-style brewing process. Coarsely ground coffee is steeped in hot water for several minutes, then separated using a plunger and metal mesh. This technique yields a full-bodied cup with more oils and some sediment, creating a robust and earthy flavor profile. While it can be enjoyed with milk if brewed strongly enough, it lacks the concentration of Indian filter coffee and is not traditionally milk-based.

AEROPRESS COFFEE

The Aeropress combines immersion and pressure, delivering a short and potent brew that closely resembles espresso. It creates a strong, smooth coffee with low bitterness and rich crema-like oils, making it ideal for milk-based drinks like lattes. However, one notable drawback is its construction—typically plastic with a rubber seal that wears out over time, requiring replacement.

CONCLUSION

Each method brings something unique to the table.

  • Indian filter coffee is traditional, milk-forward, and flavor-rich.

  • French press offers a hearty, unfiltered experience.

  • Aeropress delivers a modern, espresso-style punch with convenience, though it comes with a tradeoff in durability.

Perfecting your coffee routine means finding the brew that best fits your flavor preference—and your lifestyle.

How to Brew Kaapi With Our Brass Indian Filter Coffee Maker

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Filter
Remove the brass tamper from the upper chamber of your filter coffee maker.
  2. Add Coffee Powder
Spoon in 4 tablespoons of ground LURU Organic Indian Coffee (with or without chicory) into the upper chamber.
  3. Tamp the Grounds
Gently press the coffee down with the brass tamper and leave it in place. This helps ensure even extraction during brewing.
  4. Add Hot Water
Pour 130–140 ml of steaming hot water into the upper chamber, directly over the coffee and tamper.
  5. Let It Brew
Allow the water to slowly drip through. This process will yield about 120 ml of rich coffee decoction in the lower chamber.
  6. Assemble Your Drink
In a cup, mix 30 ml of decoction with 80–100 ml of hot milk. Adjust to taste.

Tips for Best Results:

This traditional method delivers a smooth, aromatic coffee experience—perfect for mornings, guests, or anytime you crave an authentic South Indian cup.

Caring for Your Brass South Indian Filter Coffee Maker

Prior to Use and for General Cleaning and Polishing: Wash your portable coffee maker with a mild solution of soap and warm water. Dry immediately and thoroughly with a lint-free cloth.

How often should you clean brass? Brass requires regular dusting and cleaning to maintain its shine. Otherwise it will begin to tarnish. Prolonged exposure to water can cause corrosion, so after cleaning, dry it immediately to prevent water spots and tarnishing.

Tips:

  • Use a soft cloth or sponge. Avoid using abrasive materials that can scratch the brass.
  • Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners on brass, as they can damage the finish. Also, stay away from vinegar or lemon juice, as they can be too acidic for brass.
  • Protect from Moisture. Brass can tarnish faster in humid environments. Store the brass travel coffee maker in a dry place and avoid exposing it to excessive moisture.
