About Us

Pure Indian Foods is run by the Agarwal family: Sandeep & Nalini (aka "the ghee lady")

Meet the Agarwals

Husband and wife team, Sandeep and Nalini Agarwal, brought the family ghee business to the United States in 2008. The business for them is a family legacy that they one day want to leave to their children. Currently, Sandeep runs the day-to-day operations, and Nalini makes all the ghee by hand in the traditional Indian way. Sandeep is also on the Board of Directors for the New Jersey Food Processors Association as well as an active member of AHPA AHPA Ayurvedic Products Committee. He is also a 9/11 survivor.

Listen to Sandeep share his personal journey and the journey of his family in the creation of Pure Indian Foods.

Family Business Since 1889

In 1889, Lala Khoobram Agarwal, our great-great-grandfather, launched a pure ghee business in northern India. After 5 generations and 130 years in this business, we are still learning! The Agarwal family continues to build upon its proud heritage by focusing on quality and not on quantity.

Our Vision

Our vision is to offer great tasting grass-fed organic ghee products at reasonable prices that will help ghee achieve the same sacred superfood status in the U.S. which it has enjoyed in the Indian tradition for millennia.

Organic, Grass-Fed & Pasture-Raised Cows

Our ghee is made with milk obtained only during spring through fall, when the cows are out to pasture eating fresh green grass. A small portion of the cows' diet may include certified organic, 100% GMO-free feeds, including grains, per their needs. Additionally, the pasture land may naturally contain nutritious legumes, such as alfalfa. As such, we don't make a 100% grassfed claim. USDA Organic label requires that cows are never fed GMOs, and are not given any hormones or antibiotics. Also, no pesticides or chemical fertilizers are used on the cows' feed. The milk is sourced from small family farms in the USA that have many different breeds of the cows, all of which are grassfed and raised organically.

Grassfed milk contains fat-soluble vitamins and naturally occurring Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA). Our ghee is Certified Organic by New Jersey Department of Agriculture (NJDA).

Made From Non-Homogenized Milk

Homogenization is a process that breaks up fat globules in milk or cream to such a small size that they remain suspended evenly rather than separating out and floating to the surface. We use non-homogenized milk to make our ghee.

Our Proud Heritage

We are passionate about ghee! We are keeping our family tradition alive and preserving our heritage. We make the finest grass-fed, organic ghee products in the world!

Made Fresh In Small Batches

Our ghee is made fresh in small batches in stainless steel equipment. We include best use by date for your convenience of safe use. We make our ghee products with pride in New Jersey, USA with organic methods, using the milk of the cows that are raised in the USA.

Production Facility

We make our ghee products in commercial, well equipped production facilities that adhere to cGMP.

Non-GMO

All of our products are Non-GMO. A Genetically Modified Organism (or GMO) is a plant, animal, microorganism or other organism whose genetic makeup has been modified in a laboratory using genetic engineering or transgenic technology. The resulting organism is unstable and can be hazardous to our environment, as well as other living organisms. GMOs can be found in food made for human consumption, as well as in in animal feed. All of our products---both plant-based and animal-based---are made from non-GMO ingredients.

Sustainable

Here at Pure Indian Foods, we are passionate about creating products and enabling local economies that are sustainable for both our environment and the people in it. What better way to do this than through advocating for the purest food available?

Sustainability starts from the ground up. Literally. When it comes to our ghee, it starts with nutrient-rich soil, free of fertilizers and pesticides that grow luscious green grass for the cows to graze on. Sun, soil, clean water, and a cow turn organic grass into organic milk, which we then turn into organic ghee (which we like to call sunshine in a jar). The nutrients from the soil are pulled into the grass, which gets eaten by the cow, which transfers to the milk, which is then consumed by you!

Being sustainable means considering every step of production and it's impact. This is why we also work closely with small family farmers both in the United States (for milk for our ghee products) and in India (for our organic spices and herbs). In order to keep bringing you high-quality organic products, we know it's important to do our part in creating sustainable economies and markets for small farmers to share their products. With every purchase from Pure Indian Foods, you're helping small farmers continue to stay in business.

Our Approach to Customer Service

"A customer is the most important visitor on our premises. He is not dependent on us. We are dependent on him. He is not an interruption in our work - he is the purpose of it. We are not doing him a favor by serving him. He is doing us a favor by giving us the opportunity to serve him." - Mahatma Gandhi
