Soap nuts are a hypoallergenic and fragrance free alternative to chemical detergents and commercial laundry soaps. Great for sensitive skin, and leaves laundry clean, soft, and fresh. It is safe for all fabric types both synthetic and natural. Use for dedicates, silk, wool, cloth diapers & more.
Soap nuts can also be used in other places as alternatives to soap, such as washing the car or as a base for shampoos.
Species:Sapindus mukorossi Other names: Soapberry, washnut, Himalayan soapnut
Origin: Soapnuts originate from India and Nepal. The nut is actually a berry forms a hard shell when dry. The shell contains a natural surfactant called saponin. Surfactants work by reducing the surface tension in the wash water. This helps release dirt and clean fabrics and surfaces. When the soap nut shell absorbs water, this surfactant is released.
How to Use: Use in laundry in lieu of standard detergents. Usually 1/2 cup of shells are sufficient for a normal-sized load. Place the nuts inside a cloth bag and tie shut. You will see few to no bubbles during the wash cycle, but this doesn't mean it is not working. Add a few drops of essential oils to the cycle if you prefer fragrance. Lavender, orange, or lemon essential oils work nicely. The soapnuts naturally smell similar to unripe/sour berries. These are safe to use in energy efficient washers.
When to replace them: Soap nuts can be reused several times before they begin to disintegrate. Once the shells appear gray and soft, you can discard or compost them.
Fragrance: They do not have a smell when dry. When using in laundry, they may cause the wash water to smell slightly of vinegar. You can use essential oils if desired.
Other uses: Jewelry cleaning, washing the car, shampoo, surface cleaner.

I have been using soap nuts for several months now and enjoy the process of actually making my laundry detergent. It’s very easy and a plus for me since my town no longer recycles plastic.

I love these "Soap Nuts, Certified Organic - 2.2 lbs (1 kg)"!!!
I have heard about soap nuts for years and always wanted to try them. Well, I have and they are wonderful! Our laundry comes out so clean and soft (no need for fabric softener at all). I myself have very sensitive skin and these soap nut have not cause one single reaction of irritated skin. Laundry is a breeze now, because no more measuring messy liquid or powder detergents and fabric softeners. Just fill the muslin bag with 1/2 cup of the soap nuts cinch the bag closed, tie the pull cords together and toss the bag into your washer and leave it to run through the complete wash cycle. Couldn't be easier. :O)
One also saves money because they are so economical (no expensive detergent and fabric softeners to purchase) and they are environmentally friendly too, we toss them into our composter when they are spent (turn pale or gray in colour). It's a Win, Win situation.
I know where to go to purchase my next order (Pure India Foods) when I'm running low.
Thank you, Pure India Foods for offering these Soap Nuts, Certified Organic - 2.2 lbs (1 kg) at a terrific price. Oh, the little muslin bag that are included in this order are great. I'm so glad that I found your website and a great site too. :O)
Cheers!!!

I've used soap nuts for several years. When my normal brand quit selling them, I went on the hunt for new ones. What a hunt it was - ordering from 4 other brands & returning to Amazon, before finding these. The others from Amz all stunk terribly, they must have been soaking them in some kind of chemical. Thanks for offering a quality product, these smell great (just a slight pleasant, sweet smell)! Also really like the size & texture of the bags.

Soap Nuts
These are great! I had heard of them, and am giving them a try. Very happy with the results. And what fun, in a sense, to be doing something different. Not being familiar with them, I ordered 2 bags, which could likely, at my age of 73, last me the rest of my life!
