What's wrong with conventional turmeric?

These days, the benefits of turmeric are well-known, but they can be compromised by mishandling or poor processing before it gets to the consumer.

In the last 5 years, the FDA has recalled inferior imported brands for Lead Contamination (read more) and the presence of Salmonella.

Other brands contain fillers and additives, and may have undergone a harmful process called ionization radiation.

Only buy herbs and spices that are “non-irradiated.”

Almost all spices sold in stores today have undergone a process of ionized radiation in order to extend shelf-life and kill bacteria. Unless other wise stated as "non-irradiated," you can assume the spices sold in stores have undergone this process.

This sounds good at first, but the consequences mean that most of the valuable qualities are lost. This leaves the consumer with a degenerated food product, and may even contain carcinogenic chemicals as a by-product.
